In the year 2233, the USS Kelvin investigates a lightning storm in space, which the crew soon realizes is a black hole. A
massive vessel the Narada emerges, creating an alternate timeline. The Narada opens fire on the Kelvin, inflicting heavy damage. The Narada’s captain, Nero (Eric Bana), hails the outmatched Kelvin and demands that its captain, Richard Robau (Faran Tahir), come aboard the Narada via shuttlecraft. Captain Robau agrees and hands command of the ship to his first officer, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth). Robau orders Kirk to wait fifteen minutes for his signal or else evacuate the ship.
